with Project WET
Water Education Festival
You Are Invited!
Join NMSU-WERC (NM-Project WET) and the Los Alamos County Department
of Public Utilities in presenting valuable water education lessons to
our young New Mexico stakeholders. The 2007 festival is proudly
supported by Los Alamos Public Schools and the Los Alamos County
Cooperative Extension.
Location, Date, and Time:
Where: Community of Los Alamos, NM
When: Friday, October 19, 2007
Set-up: 7:30-8:30am.
Event Times: 9:00am-3:00pm.
Our Audience:
Approximately 240 fourth grade students
Our Theme:
“Why Water Matters”
Mission:
The mission of the water festival is to instill in the participating
students and adults attitudes and values that lead to a lifetime of
water-wise lifestyles.
Goals:
The goals are to provide awareness and education that will lead to
water-wise lifestyles, an understanding of community and state surface
and groundwater, and involvement in community conservation and pollution
prevention programs.
Objectives:
To provide learning experiences in water topics such as:
- Water Sources
- Water Uses
- Water Conservation
- Watershed Awareness
- Watershed Health
- Water Protection,
- Point and non-point source pollution
- The water cycle/watershed
- Water quality and quantity
- Drought & Local weather cycles
- Aquifers (location, recharge, mechanics, etc.)
- Water Careers
- Water culture, history & art
Presenters & Volunteers:
No Registration Fee required! We appreciate your in-kind
participation.
Presentation Options:
Sessions will last approximately 20 minutes. Hands-on activities and
labs are highly desirable. Accommodations are available for both indoor
and outdoor set-ups.
- Hands-on & Interactive: audience participates in short
activities.
- Informational booth: presenter explains display concept and
conducts Q&A with students.
- Informational delivery: video, slide show, etc.
- Drama, music, dance, the arts.
- Presenter Hand-outs and promotional materials are encouraged
Volunteers:
Volunteers are needed to assist in various activities during the
water festival. This will include helping to setup, assist with
registration, guiding groups, etc.
