Small-Scale Chemistry

Small-Scale Chemistry (SSC) is an innovative teaching approach that manifests the “Green Chemistry” movement by incorporating fun and safe conservation-based experiments that are time, material and cost efficient.  SSC is designed to promote resource reduction, student safety, pollution prevention and waste minimization by using drops of chemicals and high-tech plastic lab ware to replace liters of chemicals and breakable glassware.

Topics Covered

  • Nomenclature of Small-Scale Chemistry
  • Standardized, Web-based Chemical Inventory System
  • Principles of Small Scale Chemistry
  • Free Small Scale Chemistry Kits
  • Laboratory Safety Cost
  • Safety and Waste Minimization Activity
  • Lesson Plan Development Embedding Environmental Themes in Science Classes
