WERC offers fellowships to encourage students to take environmentally focused courses while pursuing higher education. A limited number of fellowships and scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in an environmental field at NMSU.

Eligibility

Fellowships are available to:

  • Full-time students taking an environmentally related course of studies.
  • Students having a cumulative grade point average of 2.75.
  • Students pursuing an Environmental Management Certificate or Minor.
  • Students who are U.S. Citizens or a permanent residents of the United States.

Students who have already completed the environmental management minor are no longer eligible for fellowship awards.


Selection

Applications are evaluated along with a Personal Statement that demonstrates:

  • A clear commitment to environment management courses taken in the environmental field.
  • Academic and personal achievements.
  • Reasons for pursuing a chosen major.
  • Special skills and talents that would interest a potential employer.
  • Type of fellowship/scholarship sought.

The applications will be reviewed by a WERC panel. Recommendations will be submitted to the executive director for final approval.


Requirements  

  • Maintain full-time status and a GPA of 2.75.
  • Complete the WERC minor requirements (a minimum of 18 credits, at least nine credits must be upper-division) upon receipt of a baccalaureate degree
  • Continuously take one or more credits of WERC-approved environmental courses.
  • Have already completed three credits of environment courses.

Graduate Scholarships - Award Amount Varies

  • Maintain full-time status.
  • Complete the WERC minor requirements upon receipt of master’s or doctoral degree.
